Who are we?

Gold Street Chapel is an independent Christian congregation located in the heart of Saffron Walden. We are members locally of Churches Together in Saffron Walden, and nationally of the Evangelical Alliance. We are also members of Partnership, a charitable organisation providing support to independent local churches.

Our aim is to make Jesus central to our lives and our relationships, and to provide an open and welcoming community within which anyone can explore what it means to be a Christian in today's world.

Sunday services

On Sundays we meet for services at 10.30 in the morning and 6.30 in the evening.
We currently hold our morning services in the local secondary school, which allows us more room than the chapel can provide. Meanwhile we are refurbishing our chapel to form a more flexible space for a range of activities. Children and young people form a large proportion of those present on Sunday mornings, but we span all ages and a wide variety of backgrounds.

Our evening services remain at the chapel in Gold Street, as do many of our weekday meetings. Click here for a map showing these locations. You can view a list of services for the coming month by selecting the Activities option in the menu to the left.

What else are we up to?

Roger at the barbecue

Some of the men gathered at Peter's farm for a barbecue recently - marked out by high quality burgers and questionable knees!

After torrential rain earlier in the day, the weather dried up in time for the cooking, admirably performed by Roger and Jonathan.

This wasn't a gathering for formal prayer, bible study or worship, but a chance to spend time in one another's company, to enjoy discovering new things about each other, and to spend some time appreciating God's creation and the diversity of those he calls into his family!

As dusk fell we were taken on a tour of Peter's farm for an introduction to the techniques and challenges of modern farming, all from the "comfort" of a farm trailer — so our thanks go to Peter for his commentary, and Ted for driving the tractor!

Our on-line church calendar

In addition to our church services, accessible via the "Activities" button up there to the left, you can now find details of other open events at the chapel by visiting our online calendar! We have added this to prevent conflicts between events, and to offer a single point for all members to check on forthcoming events. If you are organising a church event, please take time to update the calendar so that everyone can know it is happening. You will need to contact Nick for the password that allows you the required access.

Your help required:

This is quite a new website, and still under development. We want to make sure that its contents meet the needs of our visitors, but we can only do this if you, our visitors, tell us what you are looking for.

So please do get in touch to let us know what you like, what you don't like, and what you'd like to see added to the site. We'd like to make this a site you visit regularly and that provides the information you need, or answers the questions that you are asking. Would you like to see a list of all our activities, or be able to ask questions about the Christian faith? Should we host a discussion area of some kind? Please contact us to let us know what our site should include, and we will respond (as time permits). All comments should be directed to website@goldstreetchapel.org.uk or use the form for "Comment on website" if your browser is Java-enabled.
