Online Casino Odds Rake

Avoiding the Worst Odds in Online Casinos

Every so often, it is extremely valuable for the average online gambler to take a serious self-assessment. I know, this sounds like an act of pure drudgery with little immediate reward, but bear with me. If you devote a substantial portion of your free time pursuing casino diversions on the Internet, you really owe it yourself to occasionally step back and look at your overall patterns. One of the most vital of these is your tendency to seek out situations online where you are gambling with desirable odds. Clearly, this sounds like the type of issue that is so obvious it does not require any direct scrutiny, but you would be surprised how often the very opposite is true. A large percentage of online gamblers consistently go back to games offering terrible odds, which defies any measure of logic. Are these folks simply masochists who love handing over their money to Internet casino operators, or is there something else driving their decision?

The Ratio of Odds vs. Fun

The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of people log onto the Internet for the purpose of gambling simply so they can relax and enjoy some entertainment. While there is nothing wrong with that, it hardly represents the pinnacle of Net-based gaming mastery. You would be much better served to find a happy medium between the enjoyment you garner from gambling online and your chances of success.

What does this mean exactly? First of all, in order to avoid the very worst odds online, there are certain games which you simply should not play. This dubious list would be headed by diversions such as slots, Caribbean stud and Keno. Though, all of those three games have legions of devoted fans, when you look at the mathematics involved there is absolutely no reason to waste your time playing them.

Smarter Bets

So, what games are worth your attention, based on the odds they offer? In general, these diversions can be known as skill games. Online blackjack can offer extremely good odds, depending on the number of virtual decks being used per game and other factors. (Be advised, however, that the insurance bet in blackjack comes with some of the worst odds you’ll find anywhere.) Craps is another game that, due to the elevated level of skill it demands, can offer some extremely good odds. (Again, that is true as long as you only make smart bets, and leave foolish options such as proposition bets to players who don’t know any better.)

Poker, obviously, is a skill game. This comes with manageable odds. A caveat must be noted here, however. The degree to which you have taken the time to school yourself in not only the mathematical, but also the psychological tactics needed to be successful in poker will totally determine what kind of odds you face.

Rakeback Gives You Better Odds

If you play poker seriously and want to maximize the profit, you must take the poker rake into consideration. Every time you contribute with money in a cash-game pot or enter a poker   tournament, the house will take a small portion of the money. This is called rake.

Nowadays, however, you have the opportunity to get a percentage of your rake refunded. You simply sign up with a poker room – Full Tilt Poker or Ultimate Bet for instance – through a rakeback affiliate. In doing so, the affiliate will pay out money to you every month, which makes the odds much better for you.

Remember that you’re usually not allowed to have a previous account with the poker site you wish to earn rakeback from. If you already have accounts with the large rooms, you can always try a new site like  Cake Poker and play with a nice rakeback percentage.

At the end of the day, a certain percentage of the gambling population just does not want to take the time to educate themselves in skill games that will provide better odds. That’s fine, let those folks enjoy themselves in the wild and woolly world of Keno. You have loftier goals in mind, don’t you?
