Translating Music with
OrganAssist
Although MIDI was established as a standard for transferring data between different instruments, over the years each manufacturer has implemented their own standard. The MIDI messages (particularly for stops) vary greatly between different manufacturers and even different models in the same range. It seemed that the ability to play recorded music on any instrument was just not possible.
OrganAssist has achieved this. By recording the "performance" and not the MIDI data, OrganAssist is capable of playing back any piece of music on any supported organ.
OrganAssist has been tested using digital organs from Cathedral (Emminent), Classical (Ahlborn), Johannus, Makin, Rodgers, Viscount and Wyvern as well as pipe organs using Solid State Logic Organ Systems. It has been able to record/playback pieces and exchange them seamlessly between all instruments including registration and expression. This is, of course, subject to the limitations of the MIDI implementation of individual instruments.
Due to the complexity of this process, OrganAssist may need to be configured for each instrument as registrations can be customised and some manufacturers use more than one implementation of MIDI.
How does OrganAssist cope with this? OrganAssist contains two features that make it possible. A Virtual Organ and a Virtual Organist. For further details on these features please click here.
