AIRPLAN© instantly
calculates the number of aircraft, crews, sorties & flight hours
required by any fleet of aircraft to fly any
package of missions, or an entire air campaign, in any
role over any time period.
AIR
OPERATIONS & FLEET PLANNING
By using AIRPLAN,
within minutes, land-based and ship-based air forces can plan and
optimise complex air campaigns & mission packages to match actual
fleet availability. Likewise, they can determine the minimum
numbers of aircraft and crews required to carry out any air operation,
whatever the duration.

a description of AIRPLAN capabilities)
AIRPLAN's capability
is unique. No other known fleet analysis, aircraft performance
evaluation, mission planning, or battle management computer program
provides the same capabilities.
Multi-Mission &
Mixed or Multi-Fleet Capabilities. Different aircraft
types or fleets (fixed-wing or helicopter) flying the same or different
mission packages, can be analysed concurrently. Any number of patrols
at up to three radii, or six routes to targets or destinations,
can be handled simultaneously. These can involve any operational
role and be fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters.
Increased Capability,
Lower Fleet Costs. Most Air Forces and Navies would find
that, by applying AIRPLAN output data to their forces,
they could increase their maximum
sustainable sortie generation rates by anything from 25%
to 100%. Likewise, virtually every air force could
reduce its fleet life cycle costs while maintaining - or
more probably increasing - its mission generation capability.
AIRPLAN
operates on any Desktop or Laptop Computer.
It is easy to use. New and powerful, it provides a quantum improvement
in fleet management & mission planning at every command &
control level. It is also a valuable design optimisation and marketing
tool for military Aircraft Manufacturers (see 'Aircraft
Design & Procurement' section, below)
AIRPLAN uses PC computer
technology to speed up and provide instant accuracy in air campaign
& mission planning. Unit & force establishments or strengths,
performance and operating limitations (aircraft & crews) can
be stored in an integral, amendable database from which details
can be transferred, electronically, to the main program.
AIRPLAN is useful at all
command and control levels: for Squadrons, Air Bases, Ships,
Operations Centres, Headquarters, Ministries of Defence - and for
the Aerospace Industry. It caters for all aircraft types: land &
sea-based, fixed-wing & rotary wing. Provides detailed, on-screen
results, and hard copies. Calculates crew rest and duty periods,
attrition losses, the No. of a/c remaining on the ground, fuel requirements
and consumable logistics data. It ensures that fleets (aircraft
and crews), however composed, can be tasked up to but not beyond
their limits - and these limits are set by the air planner thus
ensuring accuracy and validity.
AIRPLAN fills a long-standing
gap in air operations planning. It can provide Commanders
at all levels with clear choices, facilitating rapid decision making
and decisive leadership.
AIRPLAN speeds up the planning
processes and substantially reduces the effort required. It
cuts operations planning time from days or hours, to minutes. Calculating
the actual sortie generation rates, aircraft, crews, flight hours,
fuel and sorties required, and producing dated & timed sortie
schedules and attrition data, can be done quickly and simply. Missions
can be re-planned, rapidly, should the threat or scenario change
suddenly.
AIRPLAN introduces
a new dimension to air operations planning. It will complement
and not duplicate any other mission support or battle management
system that may already be in use.

AIRCRAFT
DESIGN & PROCUREMENT
AIRPLAN is a vital aid for those
concerned with military aircraft design, procurement, and long term
fleet planning. Invaluable for staff officers in Ministries
of Defence & Aircraft Procurement Departments, as well as a
design tool for Aircraft Manufacturers. Among many
uses, it can undertake the complex calculations necessary for accurate
comparisons to be made to determine the true operational capabilities
and cost effectiveness of different aircraft types and fleet sizes.
AIRPLAN - a valuable
aid for cost & operational effectiveness investment appraisals
(COEIA). Such evaluations and consequent decisions on future
aircraft procurement, can now be based on truly representative and
accurate performance analyses and comparisons.
AIRPLAN enables Operational
Requirements staff to optimise future aircraft requirements
by quantifying and comparing alternative design solutions with different
performances in realistic scenarios. This avoids over or under-specification,
reduces technical risk and cost, and provides numerically validated
confirmation of aircraft design characteristics and performance
that best meet the operational need. This increases the certainty
with which the military can select (and industry can design) the
most cost-effective, affordable solution to their needs.
AIRPLAN can greatly assist
Project Design Engineers in the Aircraft Manufacturing
Industry. It enables them to compare and trade-off aircraft performance
against cost and capability. It allows them to determine, mission
capability with far greater accuracy than hitherto. Manufacturers'
Marketing Teams can accurately compare fleets of
competing aircraft.
AIRPLAN removes the need for guesswork
from operational requirements definition and aircraft design optimisation.
This substantially reduces the likelihood of errors that may subsequently
be impossible or costly to rectify.

PROGRAM DESIGN
AIRPLAN is designed and written
by a former senior United Kingdom Air Force (RAF) officer. The
decision to design and develop the program over a three-year period
was taken as a result of more than 30 years practical experience
in military flying and operations planning followed by 14 years
working for a major European military Aircraft Manufacturer. This
broad-based, first-hand experience has driven the design of AIRPLAN
to make it an exceptionally versatile tool with global military
planning application. It is designed for use by
'normal air operators' - not computing experts. Hence, the program's
user-friendly design. It is loaded on Excel 97, Microsoft Office.
