Welcome to the web site for the bells of the Parish Church of St. Mary’s, Walthamstow in the old Village. Visitors will find 16th and 18th c. almshouses in the churchyard along with many fine and unusual  tombstones, some of which are listed. Near the church are some 18th c. houses, the 18th c. Workhouse/Vestry House (now housing the local museum and archives) and an early 15th c. house. Unfortunately due to increasing vandalism the church is not normally open. Inside can be found several excellent monuments, including brasses dating back to 1436, and a monument by Nicholas Stone, the only known example of his work in Essex. This monument, on the north wall of the Sanctuary, is to Dame Mary Merry and is dated 1633.
