Wheel Building

There are a number of websites which tell you how to build wheels, but probably the best book on the subject was written by Roger Musson (who built wheels for teams such as Mountain Bike UK, Hope Technology and numerous other downhill race teams both Pro and amateur).

Roger used to run a specialist wheel building company called Wheelpro.

I went on one of his courses back in 1996 and built a beautiful pair of MTB wheels using Quando hubs, Sapim double butted spokes and Ritchey rims which I've now sold since upgrading to disk brakes, but after several hundred miles of off road use, where still true and in perfect condition.

Unfortunately Wheelpro is no longer trading but he is still selling his excellent book A Practical Guide to Wheel Building for £8, which in my opinion is money well spent.

He also has a very useful spoke calculator which can also be found on the Hope website.

As a side note Roger wrote Back in December 2000 the Hope Technology Disc Brake User Guide which still forms the basis of the current manual.
