well today in the freezing cold I finally managed to get all the panels sanded down and a top coat of paint on the inner wings and I love the colour, even in the dim light.

12th November

What a week ! never thought I would get this much done. Its really helped to break the back of the time consuming jobs that needed to be done. what with the bad weather due any time knowing the front end is at the stage of alignment and prep work for paint  makes me feel a lot better and I just had to put the front headlamp cowls in so I could see how she's going to look and allow me to start my next job, the front valance area !

take a look at the pictures below and start imagining what the missing area is going to look like !

roll on next weekend!

26th November

Well the weather is now closing in for winter so I cant get on with much outside.

last weekend in the few hours that it didn't rain I managed to weld both the bottom  rear door posts

and rear bottom quarters so at least the rain wont get in the car while its outside.

so I have resorted to cleaning parts and sanding and priming parts in my workshop it looks like a production line in there with the front valance still in original paint with the lower grill panel attached while the headlamp cowls which are made of aluminum in bare metal. and connected to them is the Eleanor conversion again in metal but coated with a rust agent awaiting a dry couple of hours so I can trail fit them to find out how I'm going to make the front valance conversion look.

the lower spot lamp pods are made and again awaiting to be welded in to the front valance and the bonnet is home, grinded, filled and sanded and rust treated and primed on the inside awaiting a dry spell so I can put it on and adjust the front wings so I can then fit the complete front end  .

its driving me mad, I get a weekend free to work on the Stang and I'm stopped due to the weather !

in the next few weeks Rustang is going off to a mates workshop so I can continue working through the winter my plans while its there are to pull the engine and gearbox out the car and to paint the engine bay and the engine and the front suspension, finish welding the floor from underneath  and paint in top coat paint  and also to paint the interior in top coat paint. Re-skin the bottom of both the doors, make the side scoops, remove the rear suspension and paint it and make the rear spoiler hopefully all before Christmas

once that's all done all it leaves to do is paint the old girl and put her back together

10th - 24th  December 2006

well Rustang is now up my friends workshop, who carries out restoration work on all sorts of vehicles

Here's a link to his website

Flack & Son Ltd

not sure how long for, depends on his work commitments

this week I had till Thursday off with the intention of pulling the engine out and spraying the engine bay the inner boot area the inside of the car and the underneath

all this went out the window Monday morning when I looked under the car and found it a little worse than I thought

spent a couple of hours  wire cup brushing the whole floor and found it was worse than I thought

both the torque boxes were shot the front frame rails were shot the floor needed complete skins making under the foot wells in all 4 corners the inner arches were shot, the rear the rear chassis needed repairing both sides the inner wheel arches inside the car had came away from the chassis the fuel tank brace was split and rusted and the rear foot wells behind the rear arches were all gone

so I replaced all this and sprayed it with a rubberized coating and seam sealer, from the flywheel back

it needs a few more coats but its come out like glass I also cleaned the leaf springs and the rear axle and the shocks and the fuel tank and sprayed them individually off the car as well

next I have to make the decision if I'm going to spray the underneath red or leave it matt black or spray it with chassis black

I also did some work on the front end and started putting the Eleanor front end together using the original headlamp cowls and remodeling them with steel to create the shape of the famous Eleanor car

but because it's only a 6 cylinder and a coupe the front end will have some other modifications to follow a more classic race look, with an extended front valance and extra driving lights (not the great big spot lights often seen but some micro lights to increase visibility hidden in the lower valance where the indicators are usually found ) and a bigger air intake to cooling and cool air feed for the carburetor. there will also be a lower spoiler to create better down force

the rear of the car will have the legendary rear spoiler fitted to aid down force,

as you will see below I've already started working on this part and the drivers rear quarter

so now the bodywork begins !

At long last I have sourced a set of rims with the offset that I wanted

Due to the fact that sometime in the past the rear wheel arches had been replaced with aftermarket units to follow U.K law that the tires should not sick out further than the arches the outer edge angles inwards at the front of the rear arch making offset and tire choice small

so all I have to do now is get the tires fitted on the rims and put them on the car and decide on the stance of the car

once I've worked that out I can pull the engine out and paint the front suspension and refit for the final time
