CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE LATEST NEWS 25th October well the car has been home a month now, seems longer ! and what have I done well I've removed the most of the interior including the heater and blower, I've removed the front bumper, wings bonnet. I've reconditioned the starter motor I've made a clutch pedal, and pedal box I've reconditioned the carburetor (yet to be tested or a twin downdraft will be going on). I've cleaned the fuel pump out and replaced the fuel lines. I've started the engine and had it running for a good ten minutes. I've removed all the paint from the insides of the outer wings, inner wings rad cowling, bulkhead and vent panel. I've then treated them to a rust inhibitor and primed them with an anti rust paint. And by the end of this week I should of sourced a set of wheel rims, and hopefully some tire's, I will have welded up at least one of the wings side light marker holes and repaired the wheel arch. and finally finished welding the bonnet inner skin, as you will see below. so not bad really my intentions for the next month? Weld the wings totally both sides, weld repair patches to the inner wings grind the welds down on the bonnet and remove all the paint, again treat all the metal with an anti rust agent, and prime and rubber coat the inner skin with a non flammable rubberized coating. refit the front wings, and bonnet and get the gaps correct. fit the new head lamp cowls, repair the battery tray. create a new front valance and nose cone in the "Eleanor" style. repair the inner air vents, remove all the paint from the interior and treat with an anti rust agent and paint. paint the inner air vent cowl. create a rear spoiler, create the new outer sills and replace the lower door skins. and if I find the time start welding the floor. 29th October well this weekend we had great weather so I decided to refit the carburetor which has in in a cleaning solution for the past week , I did notice how far out of tune it was from original spec so I spent an hour resetting it to the factory spec. after I refitted it I tried to run the engine again. at long last it now runs off the carb, but will not rev cleanly unless you cover the air intake which indicates it was running lean. after trying to fatten it up this made no difference which leads me to think I may have to upgrade the carb to a twin choke. this will give me more power and a few more headaches making a base mount and linkage. I also managed to mount my new servo and master cylinder from a mk2 2.8 Granada. the reason I used this is because I new it would have the correct bore for the size of car and it also comes with an internal proportioning valve and an external regulating valve for the rear brakes sorry for the poor quality pic's - bad light
6th November 2006 Took some annual leave which means I have 6 whole days to mess around with the Stang. Today I spent most of the day welding up the drivers side wing, repairing the lower rear section which was full of rust which left only one thing to do - cut it out and remake the panel. This took me a few hours but I managed to also spot weld the badge holes up and fill the marker lamp hole as well the afternoon was spent grinding down the wing and the bonnet, I hate grinding!!
7th November Today was hunt for a alternator day and a washer bottle and make my mind up what colour to do the Rustang as its getting close to putting the wings back on time and it seems silly to have to pull them off again, so I'm going to paint the inner wings and the arches and the inside of the outer wings. I may also paint the front radiator mounting panel and all the brackets and the interior of the car as well. so out with the wire wheel again and remove all the paint.
8th November Today I set myself a to-do list with way to many things to do in 2 days let alone 1 but it worked it made me just get on with things instead of thinking about doing them. the to - do list went like this 1 make a mount and fit new alternator including fan belt 2 wire wheel all the paint from the interior including under the dash board 3 jigsaw out all the rust from the floor 4 create from cardboard templates to cut sheet steel for floor 5 cut steel using templates 6 weld all the sheet metal in to car 7 rust treat and prime all interior Well I did nearly every thing on the list I started the day with a 8 by 4 sheet of steel, now I have a 2ft square sheet of steel and a car with a seam welded floor that's been rust treated. but not primed that's tomorrows job. 9th November Today was painting day ! I managed to painted with a brush twice the following (see pictures) I even managed to paint inside the rear quarter light windows! and behind the dash!
