
Running on the road is the basic bread and
butter for running. There are many and varied types and distances from flat to put in as
many hills as you can and various distances from 5km to the marathon. Many people join
clubs with that dream of running The London Marathon, but they also find out there is so
much more to running than that and an endless series of runs to achieve their personal
goals. However a running club can offer so much more than that.
For a start there is running in a group of runners who share
your common interest. Very quickly you make friends and find yourself racing against
people running at speeds and times you never believed possible. With a club coach you
learn how to harness these newly discovered talents and your hooked to keeping fit and
enjoying it and it will help you feel you can achieve something out of life that no-one
can take away from you giving you a wonderful feeling inside yourself. As in that song
from the Sydney Olympics What have you done today to make you feel good.
One thing that many miss that is so enjoyable with running
with a club is Team Running. There is such a difference to running for your friends
instead of for yourself and the satisfaction of seeing what you can do together and it
builds a great closeness with your colleagues in the Club. Which is why Team Captains are
so important.
