Until 2006 I had only seen the Wasp Spider at 3 sites in Gosport - Gilkicker, Browndown Common (fen & heathland), and Sandhill. In 2006 I saw several at Staunton Country Park, and then during 2007 I saw Argiope b. at 3 more sites in Gosport: on 01-Aug-07 at Alver Meadow; on 08-Sep-07 at Felicia Park; on 10-Sep-07 by Forton Lake. This make 6 sites that I have seen it at within Gosport, and it very probably occurs at other places as I have made no effort to look specifically for Argiope - although the large web with the distinctive white zig-zag in the lower part of the web (top photo), and the size of the females make it easier to notice than many spiders.
