Andrena nitida (a mining bee)

This one was quite a substantial creature. First noticed on my drive, it then flew to the back garden and landed on the Red Currant (Ribes rubrum) bushes.

As it groomed itself on the leaf I just couldn't resist the chance of getting some close up shots.
