Many thanks to Hammond Beat for their kind permission to re-publish this article

I've got this band to thank for unexpectedly turning a quiet little evening in sleepy Christchurch in to a turbo charged evening of Jazz Funk. Enough about that though!

I get the feeling that when this album was being conceived that the band , instead of settling on a single theme for the album , deliberately went for the jugular and decided to mash up the styles a bit as if to say “Hey! We can do this," and "We can do that!”...Inevitably with this approach it's different strokes for different folks. Here's my favourite grooves :

“Jungle Strut”...This is so F*****g hot!...I'd forgotten how fantastic a tune “Jungle Strut” is , and to hear it played out with the emphasis on keeping it raw n' nasty elevates and does justice to such a classic groove.

“Blue Juice” More laid back but again another great tune to play with and a nice job done

“Turtle Walk” - Lovely little drum break at the beginning and a nice spin on yet another classic

“Starsky and Hutch” - Ahhh! ...It's that tune !

Mrs Robinson – This is a surprise for me ..Lets be honest “Mrs Robinson” is more cheesy than a pound of Edam dipped in a fondue sauce then marinated in a dairylea triangle – BUT, the band have managed to make it work .It's up there with Jungle Strut for me.

Mission Impossible...You have to wait for about a minute and half before this cover really kicks in , but when it does and the band start “Doing their thing” then it really steps up a gear. Nice!

The album is a couple of years old now so it'll be interesting to see how the groove has evolved when the new album is cut.
