ARCHIVES 2003

December 21st 2003

Hammond Beat, The most essential site for Hammond Groove and Cool Jazz in the entire universe (our words, not theirs) have kindly added us to their site. Look out for a review of Groove 1 soon. Kahlil has been very supportive of us and has also provided a link to our site from the Hammond Beat site. A link to the site is on our links page.

Also, a very happy Christmas to you all and we look forward to seeing some of you at some of our shows next year.

Happy Holiday's.................  :-)

November 9th 2003 :

With this traditionally being the bands' quiet time of year in terms of gigs, the guys have been working on adding to the set. Finding the right tracks is proving quite difficult although you can expect to hear some new tunes for next year.

Also, the Showcase gig for Liberty Entertainments went well. The following night, the guys played at, for them,  a new venue. The Salisbury Arms in Purewell, proved to be a stonking place. A lively and enthusiastic audience helped the night go extremely well. A gig for April of next year has now been booked. Check the gig listings very soon.

October 15th 2003 :

The gig at Bliss on October 23rd has been moved to another of their venues (Oyster Quay on Poole Quay). This is due to a format change at Bliss. The management of Bliss offer their apologies, as do the band, and offered an alternative venue to honour the booking (good to know that there are still companies who do the decent thing). Come along for one of the last chances to see the band this year.

September 23rd 2003 :

An old review from the Swanage Jazz Festival in 2001 has been unearthed.

September 22nd 2003 :

The Summer gigs have now come to an end (please don't cry). With a WHOLE MONTH 'till the next gig, the band are going to look at adding numbers to the set. Trying out some new ideas and looking at ways to enhance the set (has anyone noticed the new stage lighting at recent gigs?) Rob and Dean will try and reconvene for more recording work on a new album- this time using original material. We will keep you updated on any news and, hopefully, give you a taste of some of the new material on the downloads page. Keep grooving!!

September 12th 2003 :

The Tickled Hippy gig in Weymouth last week turned out to be a success. A nice venue which will become a firm favourite with the locals. It has only been open for about 2 months but has all the ingredients of a 'happening' place. Good luck to them and if you get the chance, pop in for a night. We have been asked to contact them so we can arrange the next gig so watch this space.

September 6th 2003 :

If you are unable to come along to a gig and would like to have the CD 'GROOVE1', then click here to find out how to get yourself a copy. You can also find this link on the home page by simply clicking on the CD cover .

September 4th 2003 :

Hot on the heels of Ye Olde George saying bye bye to jazz and the Salisbury Arms just up the road in Purewell have booked the band for a gig in November (click here)

Hopefully the band will have a regular venue in Christchurch after all.

'Every cloud has a silver lining' ..........

No singing at the back please!!

September 1st 2003 :

Unfortunately, the October gig at Ye Olde George in Christchurch has been cancelled. The management have decided that from now onwards, there will be no more jazz at the venue. A shame considering that they have, for years, had a reputation for jazz nights. We would like to thank them for giving us the opportunity to play at the venue for the last 4 years (and for some of the members of groove o matic, even longer). Things will never be the same again.

At least there are a few more venues in the Bournemouth area that are starting to bring jazz nights to the town. Although the band are not exactly a trad jazz band, the loss of Ye Olde George is still a sad bit of news.

August 28th 2003 :

We now have a guestbook up and running. Click on the new link on the menu bar at the top of the page to add your own message or to view what has already been said about the band. It is hosted by the Guestbook Depot.

Come on... let us know what you think, who you are or just general comments about our genre of music. In fact, just let us know about anything at all !!!

August 27th 2003 :

Some photos of Adams last gig in August last year (we don't waste time here, you see) from Ye Olde George Inn gig have been posted here .

Also, check out the artwork ideas used for the CD 'GROOVE 1' here .

August 24th 2003 :

The gig at Ye Olde George Inn proved a great success. Jan filled Pete's shoes for the night and played a fantastic couple of sets. Thanks again Jan. He was literally thrown in at the deep end and kept the band grooving in Pete's absence.

August 19th 2003 :

A couple of photos from the Sandbanks gig have been sent to us by Anne Simpson. Click here to have a gander!!

August 17th 2003 :

Due to unforeseen circumstances drummer Pete will not be playing the 21st at ye old George Inn in Christchurch. Instead, Pete has managed to secure the services of Jan Evans (of Lemongrove fame) who has kindly agreed to groove on down in his place. Jan has never played with groove o matic deluxe before so it should be an 'interesting' night!! Jan is an extremely talented drummer and the band would like to thank him in advance for his time and talent. what a trooper.... nice one Jan.

August 15th 2003 :

The last 2 Thursdays have seen the band playing at the quay in Poole and Sandbanks Beach. Both nights have seen a very special friend return. Adam Betts, the bands original drummer, has been back in sunny Verwood for the holidays and has visited the band on both of these nights. He has played a couple of tracks with the band while Pete took a little longer over his pint. Bringing back glorious memories of his illustrious past he would then hand the drumsticks back to Pete and head for the nearest bar.... drummers eh?

Also, the Sandbanks gig saw Paulie B guest on his many saxophones. A good time was had by all.

August 2003 : new look website...
