I Believe

I believe that I’m not good enough
I believe I’m too old
I believe I should be perfect
I believe what I am told

I believe I don’t deserve love
I believe I can’t win
I believe I shouldn’t ask for more
I believe this state I’m in

Know your place, your limitations
That’s what you were told
Learn to hold back aspirations
Don’t stray from the fold

And when you forgot their voices
The seeds that they had sown
Grew to seem like your own choices
Beliefs you called your own

But if one day you look around you
And wonder where you are
And how you lost the magic
And what happened to your star

And if you feel a stranger
In someone else’s life
That comes with endless strings attached
Believe that you’re a knife

I believe in Father Christmas
I believe I can fly
I believe I can do anything
I believe love doesn’t die

I believe I make my own life
I believe I know how
I believe that there’s a right time
I believe that time is now.
