Before you start:
Some points you should be aware of before flashing/flexing
your Motorola mobile phone are:
- Make sure your phone is fully charged.
- You could invalidate your warranty.
- Use this guide at your own risk.
Step 1: USB Cable:
You will need is the USB cable. This usually comes with
the phone but is also the same cable you use for most
Sony digital cameras so it might be laying around your
home. If have lost your cable, or require a new one, you
can purchase one from eBay.
Step
2: Prepare your software’s and connect your phone to your
computer:
* Connect your V3 to the computer with the cable and turn
it on.
You might see "Found New Hardware" wizard. DON'T
let Windows search for the driver, download the drivers then extract them to a folder on your computer then browse
your computer to the downloaded ‘DRIVERS’ folder and point
it to your necessary driver in the "DRIVERS"
folder (either windows XP or windows 98). Install the
drive on your computer. You might get the message twice
and do the same thing.
*If the Wizard doesn't pop up, you might need to install
the driver manually via Devices Manager:
-Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance
and Maintenance, and then click System.
On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
- Scroll down to find the phone in "Universal Serial
Bus controllers" or "Modem"
The phone might appear as an unknown device
- Choose the phone, on the menu bar choose "Action"
then "update driver"
Then you can follow the above procedures to install the
correct driver (browse to the “DRIVERS” folder, and then
to either windows XP or windows 98)
Step 3: Downgrade the phone:
Start in bootloader mode (hold # and * while powering
on) and connect the phone to the PC.
Like below in this image. (click on it for a bigger view)
Identify your current bootloader (e.g. 8.26, 7.E0, etc.)
If you have bootloader 8.26 download the "scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2
" extract to a folder then, double click on the "downgrader.exe"
file. It will open a command window and start the downgrade
process.
(If you havea different bootloader than 8.26 or 7.D0 eg.
8.23, 7.E0 etc. then simply use RSD_Lite to flash your
phone. check the flashing section
on how to do this.)
Click
on the images to see them bigger.
The process is completely automatic, just sit back don’t
touch the computer and wait for the downgrader to perform
the various programmed tasks. It can take anywhere from
about 4-8 minutes to complete. The downgrader uses the
phone’s firmware memory location, it will first backup
the firmware and then at the end it will restore it. When
the program ends you will have installed the new modified
07.D0 bootloader and the phone will be ready for use.
(***The phone may not display the bootloader screen in
flash mode correctly; it may be just a black screen. Do
not worry, this happens sometimes. You simply need to
continue on with the process)
Step
4: Unlocking:
Download here
and extract the the file to a folder then run "Motorola
Unlocker"
Remove SIM card, start in bootloader mode (hold # and
* while powering on) and connect the phone to the PC
Run "Motorola_unlocker.exe" & click "connect"
button and "yes" button.
Congratulations! Enjoy your unlocked phone.
07.D0 BOOTLOADER NOTE:
REMEMBER: After you downgrade the V3 bootloader to 07.D0
the phone may not display the bootloader screen in flash
mode correctly, it may be just a black screen. Don’t panic,
this is normal and will not cause any problems in the
operation of the phone.
If the downgrader or Unlocker does not complete and the
phone then seems dead, just re-flash your firmware to
the phone to restore operation.
