About the Artist
I first worked with glass whilst researching a project on my art course. I love its properties, both from a scientific point of view, and for its vast creative potential.I like that it can be unpredictable, although some glass artists can make it do amazing things! I still get a thrill every single time I open the kiln as I never *quite* know what is going to come out. I recently realised that this love affair with glass has been going on for many years, I just hadn't realised its potential as an artistic medium.
In my art, I am inspired by many things - but I am particularly fascinated by the similarity between the microscopic workings of the inner body and the macrocosm on a global scale. I see repetitions in patterns and forms wherever I go. I have a keen interest in science; I love to learn new things, and quite often these link in with projects that I might do. I like to work with many different materials and methods as well as glass, and love to explore and experiment when I get a chance.
At the tender age of forty something, I returned to formal education. I am currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Crafts at Derby University - we are learning a wide range of traditional skills and we consider how to put these into contemporary practice. I have no idea where this will take me, but I am enjoying the journey!
