Weymouth

Weymouth and Portland have several marks for fishing. I have not yet managed any fishing in Portland, but hope to rectify that this year.

Weymouth Harbour is a great place to take kids fishing. They can drop their crab lines down along the less busy parts of the harbour, but my son's favourite place to fish is the stone Pier. Feathering is not allowed here, float fishing is the order of the day. Robert caught his first fish here, and was very pleased to catch the Pollack seen in the photo below. You can fish all states of the tide. They were sizable at 14" a piece, his biggest fish to date. Here using simple sliding float gear and strips of Mackerel or bits of rag worm great fun can be had towards dusk in the summer and autumn catching all the small fish. Big Bass also cruise around here, praying on the small fish. I nearly caught one when it had a go at a small Pollack I was reeling in on my son's outfit. We have caught Pollack, Wrasse, Mackerel and a Lobster here, and tempting fate we have not blanked yet. I haven't had much success bottom fishing here, and it can be a bit snaggy out to sea.
