This is where my interest in sea fishing started. On family holidays as a boy in the sixties my grandfather used to take me fishing in Tenby. We used to fish off the rocks around the Life Boat Station for Mackere, sometimes off the Life Boat slipway. Then I never went fishing again until 1997.
We were camping near to Tenby and the chap in the next tent was off fishing and asked me to join him. First time out I caught nothing, but I decided to buy a rod, and set of feathers. The next evening I set off for the harbour wall in Tenby and with my first chuck acquired four Mackerel on the line. Quite a lot of excitement!!!!
Around Pembrokeshire there is some superb fishing, and scenery. I have fished Monkstone point for Bass, and actually caught one!! I tried plugging with Rapala J13 and some Toby's with little success. I caught nothing. I tried ledgering over high tide with a Pennel rig baited with soft backed and peeler Crabs. I managed to haul in one Bass of 2 1/2lb.
Saundersfoot and Tenby Harbour walls may be fished over high tide, and during the summer get very crowded, but here I have caught Mackerel, Garfish and Black Bream. I soon stopped feathering as it wasn't too interesting and concentrated on plugging and float fishing with a sliding stop knot rig. Might not get as many fish but decidedly more enjoyable.
At the end of Tenby's south beach right at Giltar point I have ledger fished for Bass with the plentiful supplies of crab. Right on the point I have plugged for Bass in the early evening. Although I never caught one others did and I saw several jumping out of the water. I caught some Pollack and Wrasse from the point on float tackle using Rag Worm bait.

Frozen bait is available in Tenby at Morris Brothers(01834 844789), and there is an angling shop in the indoor market, Tenby Angling (01834 844430), that has Ragworm to order. In Saudersfoot there is a tackle shop, Bay Tackle (01834 813115), where Lug and frozen bait, and helpful advice is available.
The coast from is full of places to fish from the rocks and several good Bass beaches. I have fished from the rocks between Manorbier and Broad Haven South catching Pollack, Mackeral and Wrasse, mostly on light float tackle. Mackerel and Bass on Lures.

There is a Sports and Fishing Tackle shop in Haverfordwest, County Sports, where frozen bait is available. And a great deal of other items.
The rock fishing and storm beaches continue around the coast from Milford Haven around to Fishguard. I have fished from the rocks around St Davids head, catching Mackerel on float tackle. One of the gift shops in St Davids sells frozen bait and tackle.
