Darth Vader - the most evil man in the galaxy...

You may or may nor have noticed, but on the right hand side of this blog are some of my favourite links - one of them leads to "defective yeti", a very funny blog by a chap called Matthew Baldwin. Now, Matthew has a tale of when he met - yes met - Darth Vader (entitled "Darth Vader made me cry"), and it's one of my favourite tales on the net.

He's written an article in the Morning News online magazine, detailing the whole story - you can read it here.

Film Review - Star Wars Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith

I was expecting great things from this film - I even considered the fact it was going to be better than The Empire Strikes Back... what did I think? Well, either read a brief synopsis (with spoilers) or skip to the bottom of the post for my view on the film.

Spoilers ahead (highlight the text with your mouse to read the film synopsis)

As the lights died down and the Lucasfilm logo filled the screen, the audience clapped & cheered - I don't ever remember seeing a cinema this packed out at a 12.30am screening! The film begins with the Clone Wars in full swing - Chancellor Palpatine has been kidnapped by Count Dooku & General Grievous (leader of the droid army), and Anakin & Obi-Wan are sent on a rescue mission. After a fierce lightsaber battle they escape with the hostage, and return to the safety of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Anakin then learns that Padme is pregnant, and although he would be expelled from the Jedi order if the Council found out, he seems pleased about the news, although Padme is worried. They discuss their future, and contemplate living a peaceful and quiet life on Naboo. Later that night however, Anakin wakes from a nightmare, where he has dreamed of Padme's death during childbirth. He vows to make sure this does not happen, in any way he can...

After a discussion with Chancellor Palpatine, Anakin learns of a Sith Lord who learned how to prevent the death of his loved ones by using the Dark Side of The Force. Anakin becomes intrigued by this, and asks Palpatine if it's possible to learn more about this power. Palpatine siezes the opportunity and reveals himself to be Darth Sidious, and tries to persuade Anakin to join him and learn the ways of the Sith. Anakin, confused at what he's hearing, says that he cannot do this and reports back to the Jedi Council with this news.

A handful of Jedi depart to take Sidious captive, but he is too powerful and wipes out all except Mace Windu, who traps Sidious in his chambers. Sidious plants further doubt in Anakin's mind causing him to attack Mace Windu, which gives Sidious enough time to bombard the Jedi Master with lightning bolts. Unable to defend himself, Master Windu falls to his death. Anakin realises the implications of what he has done, but still he is determined to save Padme's life whatever the cost. At this point he pledges allegiance to the self-titled Emperor Palpatine, and is himself renamed Darth Vader. Palpatine now gives the order to the clone armies to attack all Jedi, and the terrible slaughter begins, led by Vader himself. Only Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda can possibly stop the Emperor and his new apprentice...

Spoilers ended

This is one film that definitely has to be seen on a big screen, simply for the huge battle scenes - there are a huge number of fight sequences in this movie. The last line of dialogue is spoken (somewhat fittingly) by C3-PO in the same corridor in which Episode IV begins - the first line of dialogue in that film also being spoken by C3-PO... :)

I enjoyed this film immensely - okay, it's not up to "Empire" standards, but it's certainly up there with the three original films, and George Lucas has redeemed himself for the less than perfect "Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones". Go and see it!
