Words of Wisdom

These have been attributed to the Dalai Lama. I'm not going to bother verifying that since I don't think it matters, they still seem like good advice for fencers.

  1. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
  2. Follow the 3 Rs: Respect for self, Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.
  3. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
  4. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
  5. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
  6. When you realise you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
  7. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
  8. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
  9. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
  10. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
