The George Brown Memorial Run

Report of the 2008 Run

George Brown Memorial Vintage Run

Sunday July 20th 2008

Our annual George Brown Memorial Run held on Sunday July 20yh was again a very enjoyable day, with the Walkern sports club closed we changed the venue of the start/finish to the Cromwell hotel in the old town, where we were made very welcome.

The weather was once more very kind to us with glorious sunshine most of the day. we had nineteen official entries, while a couple of dozen or so members etc took part in doing some of the route and ended up at our lunchtime destination of the playing fields club at Upper Caldecott where we fed our bread baskets with a very nice ploughman’s lunch (the ploughman was not very happy) the run went off very uneventfully there were only a couple of breakdowns reported to race control; one was that of our president Patrick Barrett when his Jimmy James had only done a mile and stopped on him, a blockage in fuel line was the problem, pat was aided by John Watkins who stopped to see if he could help, after 10 minutes the Jimmy James going again, john roared off on his Kawasaki (don’t think you can roar off on a Kawasaki) John pottered off on his Kawasaki to catch up other riders, after about 10 minutes he saw a rider in the distance who turned out to be Pat on his Jimmy James, do not think john has much sense of direction , or pat took a short cut?

One rider decided to see what the ground looked like from close quarters when he dropped his big Honda trials bike, thankfully not to much damage occurred a few scrapes and the rider’s pride. The only other breakdown reported was that of our treasurer Stuart Muncey, after several attempts at trying to do wheelies and get rid of his passenger Theresa Kinch the clutch cable broke on the Aermacchi he had Johnsoned off of Gordon Hallett, needless to say he had fun trying to get it back to the finish.

Back at the Cromwell, secretary Mick Taylor and newly retired member Bob Voss, has the job of judging the bikes for the award presentation.

In the Cromwell hall hazel was supping some wine from a glass and was heard to say to her daughter "Mandy, this wine tastes of grapes"

Judging over it was time to present the trophies.
