Summer Family Picnic

The First Club Summer Family  Picnic is to be held on:

              Sunday 17th August 2008

We will be visiting a local beauty spot, with a large picnic area, Toilets and ample parking, about an hours ride from Stevenage.

Bikes will follow a lovely winding cross country route, and those members or families in cars can take a more direct route.

Bring a picnic with you on your bike or have your family bring it in the car and spend a delightful afternoon in glorious surroundings.

We will be leaving at 11:00 from our usual meeting point, outside "bikestop"

For more details ( not the ultimate destination, as that is secret ) see Dave Clements or myself.

Unfortunately there is a £2 per person admission charge to the picnic site; it is well worth the money for the facilities available.

Bike riders might want to have the cash readily to hand to save delays at the payment kiosk.

Bikers in Paradise Show 2009

A major new bike show is coming to Hertfordshire next year. Presented by the Hertfordshire Biker magazine and Paradise Wildlife Park, the show will be held on Sunday 26 April 2009 at Paradise Wildlife Park, Broxbourne.

The show will be called "Bikers in Paradise" and will be a fantastic motorcycle event with added attractions to appeal to the whole family. The Show will also include the zoo and the children's adventure world, as well as the other Wildlife Park attractions such as the Speedway Museum, the Woodland Trail and Safari Golf. We are planning live music, celebrity (biking & non-biking) guests, a 'fashion' show and bike displays & parades. All other suggestions are very much welcome!

We are expecting to have a large number of stalls with a wide range of products for sale, including bikes, protective equipment and ancillary equipment, as well as many other products and services - something for everyone!

There should also be space for clubs to put up their own gazebos etc.

More information will be available over the next few months as specific plans fall into place.

The aim is to turn this into the county's premier bike show and we would really welcome the support and involvement of the Stevenage & District MCC. Firstly, we would be grateful if you would circulate this information to your membership.  We want as many Hertfordshire bikers (and their families) as possible to come to the show

Secondly, we would like to give the Stevenage & District MCC the opportunity to be actively involved on the day - perhaps staging a display or parade of bikes or something entirely different??  We would be delighted to discuss ideas with you.

Do Member want to attend this as a club, or just go as individuals?

The Hairy Bikers and Nick Saunders

On Sunday 13th April Theresa and I went to a south London Hein Gericke shop to see Nick Saunders, the round the world biker, set off on his latest adventure.

There was a splendid BBQ run by the "Hairy Bikers" as well as representatives from many bike related organisations, apart from the rain and cold it was a good day.

I should point out that we spent a long time chatting to  the "Hairy Bikers" mainly Theresa telling them how good Jamie Oliver was!!

 Giant Easter Egg Run

SUNDAY 16th MARCH 2008

11 hardy bikes made this years run in what was perhaps the worst weather we have had for this event, with gale force winds and rain to start, and a cold and damp day throughout.

We first visited the Home Farm Trust who were very pleased to see us, even presenting us with a card made by the residents, we enjoyed the tea and biscuits before the long ride to Hemel Hempstead to meet with the Women's Refuge, another round of tea and biscuits before the welcome ride to the Cafe, a new one for the club, the Deep Mill Diner near Great Missenden.

Thanks to all of you that turned out to support the club and donate not only your time but a good quantity of Eggs as well. A special thanks to Dave Price ( Taxi Dave ) for transporting all the eggs, as well as my wife Theresa!!

At the Hen and Chickens on Monday 17th March (St Patrick's Day) we held our usual Egg Auction, it raised a respectable £61, thanks to you all who gave so generously and to Tony Brown for conducting the auction.

NEC Show

Many Members  of the club had a great trip to the NEC Bike show last week, many thanks to Stuart for arranging, driving and neatly parking the minibus.

Knebworth Classic Bike Show

Sunday 3rd June 2007

A great turn out by Club Members, the weather was glorious and the show well worth visiting.

Awards were won by Ian for the best special, with his sprint racing X7. And Gordon who won best European with his 1952 R35, and a second place in the 60's and 70's section;

Despite all our noisy support he didn't get best in show..shame.

The Club Stand beat all the other stands to win the coveted Best Club Stand, well done to all.

Thank you to all those who attended, supported the club and hopefully enjoyed themselves.

We also signed up eight new members, we can't be that bad if so many want to join us!!!

Just a few Pictures, where are all you budding photojournalists??

Walkern Fair

Sunday 6th May 2007

The weather may have looked a little worrying but the day turned out very nice with perhaps our biggest turn out for this event, many members helped on the club stand with a good number of bikes displayed throughout the day.

We signed up a few new, and returning members, and welcomed the Women's Refuge Representative with her thank you card and letter (see below)

Here are a few photos:

2007 Annual Easter Egg Run

SUNDAY 1st APRIL 2007

A Sunny, if a little breezy, day found almost thirty bikes, with many pillions and some car drivers assembled for our annual Easter Egg run.

                 At the Start

Our first stop was the Home Farm Trust at Shefford

Then on to The Keech Cottage

We then visited the Women's refuge people at Hemel Hempstead

Finally, as usual with Club Runs we ended up at a cafe

Another caption competition?

All the recipients were very kind and hospitable and very grateful for our donations, the only poor thing about the day was the long wait for service in the cafe, but it was worth waiting for when the food arrived.

I would like to thank all club members and visitors for their generosity, not just with Easter Eggs but with their time on the day, without you all it would have been a very poor turn out. And a special thank you to Dave, Steve and Rob for transporting the Eggs and to Theresa for organising the Women's Refuge.

PS

At the Easter Egg Auction held at the Goat in Codicote on Monday 2nd we raised £155 from the Egg Auction and donations from members; thanks to all those who gave so generously.

I have received this Press release from the Women's refuge:

MOTORCYCLE CLUB DONATE EASTER EGGS TO

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REFUGE

FORGET the Easter Bunny there is a new group of people delivering Easter Eggs this year.

On Sunday April 1 The Stevenage & District Motorcycle Club visited three charities in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire delivering over 150 Easter Eggs. Fifty people on thirty bikes and in two cars delivered the eggs to the Keech Cottage in Luton, Home Farm Trust in Shefford and the Stevenage and North Herts Women’s Refuge.

The Stevenage and North Herts Women’s Refuge is managed by Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association (HPCHA). At 1.30pm on Sunday April 1 the motorcycle club descended on HPCHAs Head Office in Queensway, Hemel Hempstead. The Club then donated 50 Easter Eggs to Sheelagh Jones, Supported Housing Manager, and Karen Rose, Team Leader at the Refuge.

Karen Rose, Team Leader at the Refuge, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the motorcycle club. The Easter Eggs will be given to the women and children currently staying at the refuge.

"I would like to thank the motorcycle club for this kind donation and for taking the time out of their weekend to visit our head office on their bikes."

All the members of the Stevenage & District Motorcycle Club bought the Easter Eggs and donated them to the three nominated charities.

Dave Kinch, from the Stevenage & District Motorcycle Club, added; "This is the fourth year that we have supported the Stevenage and North Herts Women’s Refuge as part of our annual Easter Egg run.

"It is a great event that all the members enjoy taking part in and donating Easter Eggs. We are all delighted to be able to support such fantastic local charities."

The Stevenage & District Motorcycle Club was founded in 1961. For more information on the club please visit www.stevenagemotorcycleclub.org.

And this e-mail from the Keech Cottage:

Dear David

I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you so much to all your bikers who took the time to visit us on Sunday to deliver the much appreciated Easter eggs!

I’m glad it was a nice day for you and I would be grateful if you could pass on our thanks to all your members. Hilary also mentioned that some people were interested in the Butterfly Walk and/or the Parachute Jump, so hopefully we can rely on your support again in the future.

 Very best wishes
