National Rally 2008

                                          PRESS RELEASE

Whilst the National Road Rally Organising Committee were extremely disappointed to have cancelled this year’s event, they were heartened by the fact that almost 100 riders took the time to write or e-mail with comments and suggestions. A variety of reasons were forthcoming regarding the cancellation and the top 3 were:-

The venue of the Final Control (73%),

The Special Test being held on the Monday (31%)

And the date change (28%)

It was accepted that the lack of publicity had had a huge impact and that Marketing and Publicity required attention The Committee would like to thank all those who contributed and will take note of all comments received.

We can also confirm that following requests from riders, the traditional 3 Nations Award will be replaced this year by a 2 Nations Award in order to keep the continuity of this hard won achievement.

On a more positive note we are pleased to announce that the National Road Rally will take place on 5th & 6th July 2008. We have already secured a Final Control, which has been brought back to a more central location and we can confirm that Bletchley Park, Bletchley, Nr Milton Keynes is the new venue.

Whilst the planning of next year’s event is still in it’s early stages, the Committee can confirm that:-

The Special Test, for Platinum award entrants, will be held at Mira on the Saturday morning before the start of the Rally.

The popular Daytime Rally will continue.

A new Sunrise award category is to be introduced for those who wish to finish at the Final Control but do not wish to ride through the night. Entrants will start their Rally in the early hours of Sunday morning and finish, along with the other riders, at Bletchley Park.

The Rally will continue to support the learning disability charity Mencap. Riders will have the option of raising sponsorship for taking part in the event.

Information will be posted onto this website as soon as details are finalised, so keep looking!!
