PROBUS CLUB OF HARPENDEN

Founded 1974

Probus Club of Harpenden, having been founded over thirty years ago, has seen the concept grow locally to the present situation of Harpenden being a 'multi-clubbed' town with all of them flourishing.

Membership of the club is open to retired and semi-retired professional and business men, for the purpose of enjoying good fellowship together.  We meet on the first Thursday of the month at Woollams OA Sports Pavilion in Harpenden Road, St Albans, with attendances usually around the seventy mark.  Each month we have an after-lunch speaker, with rather a special lunch to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

We have an active and well supported social programme for members and their wives, which includes short holidays abroad, theatre outings to a variety of venues and visits to places of interest, and which afford recreational pleasure.  A visit to the races, perhaps Newmarket or Ascot, has now become an annual event; in addition to the social programme, we have golf, bowls and walking sections.

We welcome applications for membership, particularly from those newly moving into Harpenden, although it should be appreciated that we usually have a short waiting list.  New members will be assured of a warm welcome and the certainty of making many new friends within a very short time.

Applications should be made to the Secretary, Don Sykes ( tel 01582 620871)

There is also a Ladies' Club which meets Friday lunchtime bi-monthly at St Mary's Church Hall, Redbourn

The Secretary is Mrs Shirley Cowell   (tel 01582 767125)
