JANUARY 2001

So we're going to a wedding!  Brian Croston and his girlfriend Angel have named the day!  SEPTEMBER 29th in Cincinnati, Ohio.  We need to save up.. Spent a good few days planning, visiting Travel Agents and making phone calls and we got a good deal in the end.  It's going to be some trip - Texas, Ohio and North Carolina!!!!

Sad event in the middle of the month when I heard that Linda Smith - she worked for me at Rigby - had died aged only 39.  Never seen so many people at a funeral.  It was nice to meet up with some old friends from Rigby but wish it had been in better circumstances.

Had a day out in York - bought one or two presents including a wedding present for Brian and Angel.  They can't call it off now - we've booked the flights and bought their prezzie!!!

FEBRUARY 2001

Flooding after heavy rains and snow and the 'Foot and Mouth' crisis hit the UK hard this month and travel to the countryside was almost non existent.  One day out this month was to Knaresborough.  At the end of the month we went over to Crewe to visit our former neighbours Mandy and Andrew who now run a pub there.

MARCH 2001

Went down to Lichfield for the weekend early march to stay with Margaret and Peter Brook (we went to their wedding last year).  Nice to see them again.  Visited the Crown Derby Pottery where I told Linda not to touch!

Last week in March saw us fly out to Tenerife for a week.  A nice relaxing holiday but a week wasn't long enough.

APRIL 2001

Martyn's got a new job as Area Sales Manager for a Waste Management company - his old job just wasn't working out.  Visited them at Easter - Harvey's really growing up now.  Visited them at the end of the month.

MAY 2001

This month is traditionally the F A Cup Final at Wembley Stadium and I usually go with friends from work.  However Wembley is now closed pending redevelopment and the final was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff so we decided to give the trip a miss this year and watched it on TV instead.

Almost sorted out our trip to the US in September - Hotel is booked for our stay in Cincinnati for Brian and Angel's wedding

JUNE 2001

Early June Linda and I had a day out to Marsden, a village on the east Pennies and an area where the TV drama 'Where The Heart Is' is filmed.  We walked along the canal to the Stanedge tunnel and had 'pub lunch' there.

Later in the month we took Jordan to Bridlington for the day.  He had a good day playing on the sands and going on rides but we got wet though in a down pour before we left.

On Father's Day we got everyone together at our house for the first time.  Martyn , Alison and Harvey came up from Wragby, Jayne, Matt and Bethany came over as did Andrea and Jordan and Linda's Mum and Dad, Maurice and Audrey.  It was nice for us all to be together albeit for only a short while.

JULY 2001

We met Martyn, Alison and Harvey in a very hot and sunny Cleethorpes and spent the afternoon on the beach.  Jordan loves playing in the sand and going in the sea but Harvey wasn't too sure.

AUGUST 2001

Our aim this month was to take Jordan to Flamingo Land, one of his favourite places.  Our first attempt was scuppered by the weather -it rained.  So we decided to take him to Eureka in Halifax but there were massive queues so we gave that a miss as well.  Fortunately the weather cleared up a bit so we went into Manor Park in Halifax.  The have a sort of 'Jungle World' there which Jordan liked and then he spent ages in the adventure playground.

We eventually got to Flamingo Land at the end of the month but the weather forecasters got it wrong and it rained again.  Whilst we got wet it was a good day.  Didn't see too much of the animals but Jordan went on plenty of rides!

SEPTEMBER 2001

September 11th - the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York stunned the world and International flights over the Atlantic were suspended.  We were not afraid to fly in spite of what had happened and were left wondering whether all the planning for our holiday had been wasted.  The day before we were due to set of we got confirmation that flights were back on and September 19th we left for the US.

Gerro with Marsha & Ned       The Abernathy's house in Paradise

First stop was Paradise, TX to stay with Ned and Marsha Abernathy.  There we had mostly a relaxing time and an evening at the Races at Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie.  We also met Gerro, their Bulgarian 'son' who is studying at the University of Dallas.

We then spent a day with Brian and Angel Croston in Frisco, TX before having a couple of days with Brian's father, Jerry and step mum Lou.  In Dallas we visited the Arboretum and Old City Park.

Night out on Main Strasse.     Downtown Cincinnati from

Covington, North Kentucky     Covington, North Kentucky

September 27th saw us fly to Cincinnati OH for the wedding on the 29th.  We saw much of Cincinnati during our stay.  The Rehearsal and Rehearsal Dinner

were on the 28th.

Just Married                         With Tim and April                          Jerry & Lou

The wedding was a great occasion - a Catholic Mass with lots of music at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montgomery  The Reception was in Downtown Cincinnati, OH at the Omni Nederlands Plaza and was a lavish affair - must have cost a small fortune.  The following day we saw more of the Cincinnati area

OCTOBER 2001

On October 1st we moved on to Charlotte NC to stay with Al and Joan Burleson.  Here we were shown the area of Charlotte and met several friends of the Burlesons.  We spent a day on Al's boat on Lake Wylie - this was a splendid day and so relaxing.

Al & Joan Burleson                   Chris & Sue Knowles

On October 5th we met up with Chris Knowles who I used to work with at Rigby and he took us to his home in Conover about 50 miles north of Charlotte where we went out for a meal and stayed over the night returning to Charlotte the following afternoon.

We returned home On October 7th, several pounds heavier and having had an excellent holiday.

Went down to Wragby to see Martyn and Alison just after we came back.

NOVEMBER 2001

Quiet month by comparison....it needed to be!!!   Martyn, Alison and Harvey came up for my birthday  We had a bit of a party with Andrea and Jordan, Jayne, Matt and Bethany and Maurice and Audrey for my birthday.  My birthday treat was a trip to the Showcase to see 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone'.  Great film.

DECEMBER 2001

Big month December - Linda's 50th birthday!!!!!  Had a Birthday cum Christmas meal hat the New Charnwood.   All the family there - great meal and all the kids (and the grown ups) behaved too.  Jordan's birthday was the day before Linda's so it was sort of a double celebration.

Andrea and Jordan stayed over Christmas and Maurice and Audrey came for dinner.

On the 28th there was a 'Rigby' reunion at the Marsh in Cleckheaton.  Good turn out and nice to see people again.  Peter Brook came up from Lichfield and stayed with us overnight so we managed to catch up on things.

Oh well, another year gone.  Don't know where time goes these days....must book another holiday!!!
