A look back at events in the year 2000

JANUARY 2000
Linda and I saw in the New Millennium at the New Charnwood in Heckmondwike along with her parents Maurice and Audrey and 100 others. Noel and Jackie put on a fine meal as usual and gave everyone an engraved coffee mug and wine glass as a memento of the occasion. Mid January saw Jayne and Matt announce that they were to become parents for the first time in August. Also this month we heard from Brian Croston and Tim Trevino in Dallas that they were to 'do Europe' in June and would be spending a few days with us.
FEBRUARY 2000
Further communication from the 'Big D' indicate that Brian and Tim are to bring their girlfriends along. Their proposed itinerary is frightening - but they are the ones doing it! Martyn flies out to Israel to work for 5 or 6 weeks. No doubt he'll miss Alison and Harvey Thomas but he promises to keep in touch with the outside world by email. Linda and I visit Alison a couple of times during the month.
MARCH 2000
Holiday time! A week in Tenerife for Linda and I. Great weather but calamity - our favourite bar the BRAHMS & LISZT has burnt down. We spend a couple of evenings walking the streets like lost souls before finding the MC, Colin doing cabaret at Dreamers in Los Cristianos - so all's now well with the world! Sadly, a week wasn't long enough. When we get home more communication from Dallas - all is organised - they arrive June 2nd.
APRIL 2000
Spent a day in Wragby with Martyn, Alison and Harvey Thomas. Also had a good day in Scarborough - weather was fantastic for early April - got my head burnt. Linda's friend Glenys married Jeff on Easter Saturday; a day only spoilt by the weather.
MAY 2000

Whilst we were not preparing for the American invasion, we had time for a couple of days taking Jordan to Scarborough and to Shipley Glen. at Scarborough the weather was kind to us again so Jordan could spend time on the beach.
Decorated the bathroom - green with a smattering of blue to please Linda! Went to the FA Cup Final - the last to be played at the 'old' Wembley. Boring game but great atmosphere. Chelsea beat Aston Villa 1-0.
JUNE 2000
This was a hectic month, Brian and Tim and their girlfriends Angel and Heather arrived June 2nd. The weather was awful but everyone had a good time. The first day we took them to Haworth and Ilkley Moor before having a fish and chip supper at Mike and Penny's. The following day they went to Edinburgh whilst on Sunday I took them to York before returning for a party with them and our friends, relatives and neighbours. SOME PARTY!!!! Monday we all went to Whitby and Scarborough for the day and Tuesday they left for London before heading off into Europe. The month ended with a party to celebrate father-in-law Maurice's 70th Birthday.

JULY 2000
Quiet month by comparison. Needed to be after the Dallas contingent ad been. Had one day out at Flamingo Land with Andrea and Jordan, that's about all.
AUGUST 2000
August 12th was Harvey Thomas' 1st birthday so we went to Wragby to visit. Nice to see him again. Went to Chester Zoo on Bank Holiday Monday - it was very busy but Jordan loved the animals.
Got two surprise emails, one from Edihno in Brazil - not heard from him in over two years. The other was from Tim Trevino's parents , Gil and Pauline who want to pay us a visit in November....more Americans!!
BIG EVENT ON AUGUST 31st....Jayne and Matt present us with a granddaughter, Bethany Jayne weighing in at a massive 8lbs 14oz.....she's gorgeous.
SEPTEMBER 2000
Spent quite a bit of time visiting Jayne and Bethany making sure that everything was OK. One trip out during the month - to Crewe to see our old next door neighbours Mandy and Andrew who have taken a pub there. It was a surprise visit and they were pleased to see us.
OCTOBER 2000
Main event of the month was our main holiday. tenerife as usual but this time with mother and father-in law and Andrea and Jordan in tow. Hard work pleasing everyone at the same time and no time to ourselves. Andrea was homesick missing her new boyfriend but the weather was great and we got through even though each day was much the same...get up...go to beach....back to apartment...go eat dinner...go to pub...go to bed... Came home in need of a holiday!!
NOVEMBER 2000
The Trevino's had to cancel their trip to Europe as Pauline had to have an operation on her knee. Come other time maybe. So we had a weekend away to get over Tenerife. Staying in Coventry we visited Warwick and Stratford upon Avon. The flooding all over the UK resulted in some of the schedule being changed (we should have visited the Cotswolds) but it was a good value for money break - and we got lots of Christmas shopping done too.
DECEMBER 2000
December 23rd was Maurice and Audrey's Golden Wedding Anniversary and they celebrated with a party at the New Charnwood. Then it was Christmas again. We had a quiet one, not doing much really. we stayed in New Years Eve and 'baby sat' Jordan. Saw the New Year in watching fireworks over Heckmondwike and then went to bed. ANOTHER YEAR OVER!!!!!
