Sly Fox were originally formed as ‘ Alcatraz’ in 1979 with Mick and Dave learning guitar together. The band was re-formed in early 2003 after a gap of around 20 years to celebrate the coming of age of the lead guitarist, Mick. (That coming of age being a youthful 40 years old!) It was a great party; so good that the band scraped the money together to buy a PA system and start again.

Following a band re-shuffle, original members Mick and Dave were rejuvenated by the arrival of Broc and Jon. The current line-up is a really tight R&B Band with driving 12-Bar Rock songs and subtle Blues tracks. Their desire to create their own style of R&B is shown in the new material being created by all members of the band and this, linked with more recognisable classic R&B covers, gives the show a complete feel.

Mick Walsh - Lead guitar and backing vocals

My influences include the work of Blackmore, Rossi, Gallagher (Rory), Moore, etc. General Rock & Blues bands have always been on my stereo at home or in the car. I’ve played in various bands, from straight Rock to Rhythm & Blues and even a Soul Band. All of them were great experiences; just playing it does it for me.

Trying to develop a proper gurning technique for my longer guitar solos.

My ambition is to play a big festival – that would just be the best feeling of all.

Dave Bridge - Rhythm guitar and lead vocals

Guitarist, singer, song-writer; band web-site, posters and covers graphic designer and implementer!

I listen to a diverse range of musical styles but, when it comes to playing live music, it has to be a four-piece rock/blues guitar band for me. The live gig is where we’re at our best – we put on a show and have a real good, foot-tapping, fun night.

Broc Manhood - Bass guitar

First picked up the bass guitar 2yrs ago, put it down again and then learnt to play it 18 months ago! Always enjoyed the blues; Walter Trout, Rory Gallagher and The Hamsters are personal favourites.

Saw Walter Trout play the Limelight and always had an ambition to play on the same stage, three years later that ambition was realised.

Christened my bass guitar ‘Buffy the amplifier slayer’ after recently blowing up the band’s bass bin.

Jon Lowe - Audio impact technician

Never had any influences, although admired many musicians and different styles of music, from Delta Blues to Skiffle to 60’s & 70’s Rock to Reggae to Rock & Roll to Rhythm & Blues.

Always being at the back of the Band does have its drawbacks, like not hearing all that is going on at the front. One band I was with sounded good at the back until someone told me it was an ABBA Tribute Group. I was mesmerised by both girls’ arses!!!

I would like this band to become a recognised and known Blues Band.

The band is co-ordinated by Andy Bridge (Dave’s brother). He looks after the set up and is the Sound Engineer (and Smoke Machine operative!)
