Stefan Bush As a trainee diver Stef feels very privileged to be involved with an expedition of this type so early on in his diving career. He started diving in the Red Sea in 2003 while on a snorkelling holiday. He later completed Ocean Diver training in the pool at Henlow and Plymouth and hopes to complete Sports Diver training during the expedition.

Expedition Dive Location Feature: An early start put 3 parties on various tasks into various areas; a walking party went ashore and gleaned information, from local fisherman and studied the topology for evidence of wartime RAF activity; a snorkelling party returned to the salvaged section to measure the wing section and survey the reef while a diving party searched several areas of sand. On return to the boat a wreckage outline could be seen from the top deck within 20m of the mooring – we were sitting right on top of part of the wreck! A water replenishment run to a near island gave time for the survey plan to be worked up while Dave Bewick plotted all the available old and new information on graph paper. Although the replenish run was advertised as 1 hour it quickly became apparent after 2 hours, that the Maldivian estimate was wildly optimistic not for the first time. An oxygen administration lecture was quickly arranged in order to salvage another period of unscheduled expedition time. In the end the water replenishment run cost 5 hours of dive and survey time. A late dive in the survey area saw 16 divers review about ½ a square Nm of sand with nothing found. Later that evening we entertained the Kelaa Magistrate and his wife Mr & Mrs Seedheebe. |
