 Lost or Found

If you have lost or found a cat there are many things you can do.

Lost

You should as soon as possible;-

1.      Produce 6 - 8 small adverts on an A4 sheet, print several, and put them through doors in a 200 yard radius of your home.

2.      Make some A4 posters to cover in cling film and tape to lampposts etc. in your local area. Place card ads in your local shops.

3.      Call our helpline (01642 589090); your cats details will be added to our database.

4.      Call other animal organisations to inform them, eg  RSPCA, Cat Orphanage, Saltburn Animal Rescue.

5.      Phone the ‘Evening Gazette’ on 01642 252525 to put FULL details in the Lost and Found column of the’Gazette’ and ‘Herald and Post’ . (This service is free). In Hartlepool use ‘The Mail’.

6.      Call local vets, who will be happy to put a card in their waiting room.

7.      Speak to people who are ‘out and about’ in your local area – mail person, milk deliverer, newspaper deliverer etc

Found

If you notice a cat ‘new’ to your area it may be a lost cat.

1.      Make sure that the cat is safe and secure while you try to locate its owner

2.      Do all of the above EXCEPT putting a full description of the cat in your adverts, both in the papers or locally. (In order to make sure that callers are genuine, ask them to describe the cat to you. If you think they may be the real owner, ask them to bring a photograph with them when they come to see the cat,)

DATABASE

We keep records of lost and found cats on a computer database for up to two years. This information comes direct from members of the public and is also taken from local newspapers.

On receiving details of a found cat, we search for an identical match in the ‘lost’ records. Often there is more than one possible record, so we call each possible match to see if the cat may be theirs. If you lose a cat and it returns by itself please let us know so we can reduce the number of records we keep.

To minimise the risk of losing your cat:

NEUTER YOUR CAT

NEVER LET YOUR CAT OUT AT NIGHT

MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CAT HAS IDENTIFICATION (identichip and  id collar)
