Saturday 27th October 2007.

We were privileged to be able to join with East Midlands Branch of The Christian Motorcyclists’ Association to participate in this ‘ride out’ which started at Leicestershire Police HQ at Enderby, Leicester.

For us it had a special significance as Jan was diagnosed and successfully treated for breast cancer 30 years ago, so we felt that we should do whatever we could to help this worthy cause.

The ride through some of the quietest and picturesque villages of Leicestershire and the borders of Nottinghamshire had been thoroughly planned by The Blue Knights and eventually led us to Donnington Park Racetrack, close to East Midlands Airport. Here the hard working organisers had arranged for us all, approximately 80 motorcycles some with pillion passengers, at least one sidecar outfit ,and one 1929 AJS sv 1000cc twin, were allowed to ride one full lap of the race track behind a qualified instructor. What an experience for most of us when for the first few minutes we were able to indulge our fantasy of being either Valentino Rossi or Mike Hailwood, depending on your generation.

But more was to follow. From Donnington we all made are way to Mallory Park Racetrack and here we were allowed to complete 3 laps of the racetrack, this time following a ‘pace vehicle’ in the form of a transit van, which did not hang about and allowed us to clear out a few cobwebs from carbs or fuel injection systems. Needless to say lap records for both circuits remained intact!

In all a brilliant ‘ride out’ and our grateful thanks go out to all the Blue Knights who made it possible for us to have such a great time, and we trust a substantial amount of money was raised for Breast Cancer Research, and that the white crosses visible on the jackets of the CMA members would not have gone unnoticed. We look forward with eager anticipation to next years arrangements.

On the day, including the ride out, selling of pins, and a social evening, £534 was raised for Breast Cancer Research.

A job well done.

See you next year?
