Watercolours by David Weston - mainly landscapes, seascapes and miniatures.David's principal concerns are to portray the immensity of the landscape, its atmosphere,
light, colour and texture, and the 'treatment' of its edges. He works
between direct response and imagination to produce landscapes and
seascapes. There is an intention to evoke a feeling of place.
He writes: " Watercolour has an immediacy which other mediums lack. This attribute is particularly appropriate where we hope to catch the moment that first grabbed our attention and made us want to paint." "Watercolour can be said to be about simplification. Even with miniatures, too much detail may merely serve to distract from the Artist's vision". David works either on site, or in the studio from collections of sketches he makes on his regular trips. Miniatures are nearly all painted on hotpress Arches paper. For larger watercolours he uses Bockingford, Saunders and Arches of various weights, depending on what the subject requires and whether he wants the brush marks or the paper's surface to dominate. He is a member of several prestigious societies including The Royal Miniature
Society, The Hilliard
Society We invite you to explore the wide range of David's beautiful paintings in the three galleries and, if you wish, to contact him via email |
