Lydden Hill 1973.jpg		 This was, I think, a ‘team race’, with handicapping for previous times/engine capacities. That would explain why Nev Frost is on a very fast bike on the back row (on the inside). I am on the front row (inside). Upon some more scrutiny I think it’s George Pearce on the middle row (inside, looking round). I guess Nev, George and I were in the same team (JJM?, Bromley?). Anyway Nev asked me (and I assume, George) to leave a gap on the inside on the start grid (as you can see we did) and to keep a gap inside as we raced into the first bend. This would allow Nev to accelerate straight down the inside and pass into the corner without any great risk. And it worked! Mind you, by the time I had raced into the first bend I’d assumed he wasn’t coming, forgot the plan and was just getting on with cornering, but the gap on my outside was just wide enough for Nev to come blasting through, giving me a hell of a shock! I never forgot the beginning of that race, and was delighted to see this photo after all those years. Thanks Kevin for making it available.
