The clubs 2006 Open Day proved yet
again that Sawbridgeworth has a prime venue for young and not so
young anglers to enjoy. For the past two years the Society has opened its gates to the
local community during the August Bank Holiday Monday, to raise awareness
of the angling facilities the club has to offer. Over 30
anglers from the ages of 7 to 78 entered the open match
sponsored by the society with two separate entry's for seniors
and juniors. Since its first open held last year word has
got about that this is a local event not to be missed. This year
over 50 children who took part in 5 individual disciplines of
fresh water angling and received a small fishing pole (known as
a whip) and rig along with a certificate of merit signed by the
Chairman. Visitors and parents were amazed at the beauty the
lake and its surroundings has to offer with many parents
commenting that this event is such a great way of doing
something as a family which is so different to the norm.
The Chairman Martyn Gibbons said
the whole purpose of laying on this event is to give the parents
and children from the area a safe environment in which to fish.
He went on to say that the club puts on a whole range of
activities throughout the year to improve young anglers fishing
skills.
In addition to the fishing
activities the Society
also provided information on the history of the society and the
waters in the Sawbridgeworth area it controls.
