The Society opened its gates to the
general public on Bank Holiday Monday, 29th August 2005 to raise awareness
of the angling facilities the club has to offer anglers. The
event took place on the club lake and the day was an immediate success
from the very start. As part of the open day the Society
organised an open match. WIth the far point closed off for
other activities (pegs 20 to 26), all but a few pegs around the
lake were filled with anglers ranging from 6 to 66 of age. Other
activities included tuition on various methods of fishing which
proved to be very popular by visitors. Every child who received
tuition form one of the 5 instructors took home a goody bag packed
with fishing items, plus a certificate of merit. The Society
also has other fishing related games and competitions all adding
to the fun. The organisers held a used tackle stall that
sold virtually every angling item you can imaging and generated
great interest. Other features included a display detailing
the clubs history, articles on how to fish and information on
joining the Society. Food was on hand in the form of a Pig Roast
sponsored by the Bull Public House and offered anglers a chance to
talk about their sport in the beautiful surrounding of the
lake. The event concluded with a presentation to the open
match winners and a raffle with prizes donated and signed by 4
times world championship winner Bobb Nudd.
