Club News
Many members may not realise, but Sawbridgeworth Angling Society has been steadily raising its profile in recent years. With the introduction of the Open Day, the clubs website, and new initiatives, such the Get Hooked on Fish pilot scheme, run in conjunction with East Herts Council. Although not widely promoted on the clubs website, the pilot scheme is to encourage local kids to try their hand at fishing during the school holidays. It is hoped that this will become an annual event introducing them to a great new sport. By supporting such ventures the club also benefits with backing from East Herts Council and their sponsors. If you have visited the lake recently you will notice new life buoy's strategically placed along with new signage, denoting disable car parking, razor wire hazards and so on. All in all the club is doing alright and with the introduction of 700 carp soon to be added to the lake, we think you will be enjoying the benefits the club has to offer?  For more information on the stocking of the lake click here or lake report icon.

It is with sadness that we report that Reg the lake bailiff has retired from his post. Reg has been lake bailiff since the lake opened 17 years ago. We wish Reg well and we hope he enjoys his travels to Spain.

As a small token the Chairman presented Reg with several European road atlases.

Gary Bradshaw was recently awarded a pack of draught Guinness for landing a carp over 30lbs from the club lake. The Chairman of Sawbridgeworth Angling Society, Martyn Gibbons offered a bottle of Champagne to any club member who succeeded in this quest, providing they produced a full report, photographs and witnesses who confirmed and acknowledged the correct weight. It has taken over two years for a club member to catch a carp to this size, since the Chairman put up the offer.

Gary, who is delighted with his new carp record, is not a Champagne type of guy and prefers the black stuff. Therefore the Chairman felt it appropriate that he should present Gary with a few cans of Guinness instead.

The Chairman has now raised the stakes even higher, by offering a bottle of Champagne to any club member who lands a carp weighing 35lbs or more from the club lake. To qualify, you must provide a full report on the method used and allow details to be published on the clubs website. In addition photographs of the carp must be provided along with witness statements confirming the weight of the fish.

A reminder to all members that the society will be holding its AGM on Friday 20th April 2007 at 8.00pm. The venue for the meeting is at the Parish Hall.

We are asking the clubs members and friends of the society that we would greatly appreciate any donation of garden tools or gardening equipment. Anything from a pair of garden shears to heavy duty petrol driven strimmers. You might think its a tall order to ask, but if you don't ask you don't get. You never know there is always a friend of a friend who might have something they no longer use? If you can help contact 07739 730948.

The Society has raised a further £600.00 in this years annual Christmas Draw, held at the Bull Public House on Thursday 15th December.
The festive spirit took hold and those who attended the event had a good evening with John Beck landlord of the Bull and President of the Society supplying seasonal mince pies. Not only was the hospitality great but this year we had the winning ticket pulled by none other than the Mayor of Sawbridgeworth Roger Beeching.
