Club Notes on the front of the programme read, "There are many unusual things happen to football clubs behind the scenes, and the attempt by some irresponsible person to cancel to-day's game is no exception. When we were informed the match would take place we were happy in the knowledge that once more we should be renewing our acquaintance with our Macclesfield friends. We feel sure you will all join us in giving them a hearty welcome to our temporary home, the 'Stadium.' At least three of their players have worn the Droylsden colours, namely, Freer, Shepherd and Mycock, and are firm favourites with our supporters. After last weeks 8-2 win our boys are confident they can give a good account of themselves this afternoon. A collection at the interval will be made by that very hard-working committee who organise the Old Folk's Tea Party in Droylsden. This is a very worthy cause ladies and gentlemen, please give generously. The second round of the Gilcryst Cup finds us drawn at home to the winners of the Stalybridge v Manchester United 'A' tie, the date to be arranged. On Tuesday evening, September 19th, we visit Mossley in the first round of the Ashton Challenge Cup, and anyone wishing to travel on the coach should book their seat to-day at the office. Our next home match will be on October 7th, when we play Urmston. The kick off will be 3 o'clock. The second team are doing extremely well, and so far are unbeaten, having scored 17 goals against 4. You have the opportunity of seeing them next Saturday, 23rd, when they play Muschamp Taylor at the Stadium. The club will accept applications from persons as trainer to the reserve team, and should hand their name to the Secretary, Mr. C Tonge. The L.N.E.R. Prize Band will play selections during the afternoon, and we are most grateful to them in coming forward to entertain you." |
