Thorpe

Date:     29th March 2002 Distance: 4 miles
Map:      OS Outdoor Liesure 24 Source:    Derbyshire walks with Children
Parking: Tissington Trail Thorpe Toilets:    Thorpe and Dove Dale CP
Refreshments: There are a variety of Pubs and hotels on this route. We could not resist the ice-cream van near Dove Dale car park which is half way round after all.

The walk is taken from the Derbyshire Walks with Children book and starts at the carpark on the old Tissington Railway and takes a picturesque route around Thorpe Cloud. That's the pointy hill in this first picture. Most of the walk takes a quiet, 'away from it all'  route until you get close to the main attraction of the valley. Which is undoubtedly the stepping stones and Thorpe Cloud itself. The inclines are gentle and there is plenty of interest for little children and big ones too. The route included one or two road sections but these were fairly quiet. We encountered one quite boggy section in Lindale following a fine dry week, so this could be quite muddy in wet weather.

First stop to look at where we will be walking today

Seems everybody wants to go to the stepping stones

today

Have Stepping stones will cross them

(even if they don't feature as part of our route)
