Over Haddon to Youlgreave

Date:     14 July 2002 Distance:  5¼ Miles

Parking: Car park in Over Haddon Toilets:     Over Haddon Car Park
Refreshments: Youlgreave is half way round and is not without it's watering hole. Back in Over Haddon the generous serving of ice-cream from a garden shed near the car park was much appreciated on what was a sweltering day..

We woke up to blue skies and temperatures into the high twenties. It would have been criminal not to go for a walk, so we chose this, following two river valleys near Bakewell. The walk began with a steepish decent from the car park to the river Lathkill (always worrying, going downhill at the start), but from there on was fairly flat. The river bank path was glorious, if a little nettley, and the water was so clear you could see the fish swimming in the pools. The wooded sections of the walk provided some refreshing shelter on such a hot day, and the final uphill slog only made the ice-cream all the more enjoyable! (N.B. there are many squeezer stiles on this walk, which we found awkward to pass through with a papoose.)

I liked the icecream at the end.
