Hartington - Biggin Dale, Wolfescote Dale and Beresford Dale

Date:      6th April 2002 Distance: 5¾ miles
Map:       OS Outdoor Leisure 24 Source:   Teashop Walks in the Peak    District
Parking:  Main square Hartington Toilets:   Hartington
Refreshments: Beresford Tearoom (also the village post office) was everything you would expect of an English Teashop with the added bonus, in view of the weather, of a freezer just inside the door with a selection of Ice-cream flavours.

The walk is taken from the Teashop Walks in the Peak District book (but also appears in Derbyshire Walks with Children) and starts in the village of Hartington. This is one of the most picturesque and surprising routes we have walked. The route takes you through three dales listed above, each with it's own style and character. I was glad we were following the Teashop Walks book because we seemed to be walking the opposite way to everyone else out that day. It's not that I am antisocial, far from it. I enjoy saying hello to fellow walkers as we pass. I just like to be the black sheep.  The weather made our day and I can let the photos do all the talking.

First stop on Reynard's Lane to look back at where we

started in the village of Hartington

A striking barn. I wonder what they want for it?

Looking down Biggin Dale which is rumored to be dry.

Keep a look out for the old mine on the left (right if you walk up the dale)

Drabber Tor at the junction of Biggin Dale and the River Dove

Following the River Dove through Wolfscote Dale.

Sheer beauty all the way.

Spot the cave further up Wolfscote Dale.

This is Pike Pool in Beresford Dale. It was far more beautiful than this

shots into the sun do not turn out well on a digital camera

Last leg looking back towards Beresford Dale

Now where is that tea shop?
