- The Family, Genus and Species numbers used in Flora Europaea
(Ref.F below).
- Polunin books
- Species reference numbers are preceded by the book reference letter given below. Upper case letters are used where the species is illustrated otherwise lower case.
- Picture references are defined by the book reference letter followed by a number. This is the plate number (upper case letter) or drawing page number (lower case).
- Other books
- The book reference letter defined below followed by the species reference number or by the page number. Where several species are shown on a page then each species is allocated a final refererence letter in alphabetical order.
Upper case book reference letters are used where the species is illustrated otherwise lower case.
