  • I started my Locost 7 project in May 1999, my engine and gearbox donor was a 1.8 Sierra which cost me £150 plus £25 to get rid of the bare shell when it was stripped.

  • The metal tubing was sourced from Yeowart Steel in Crawley, Sussex,UK cost including delivery was circa £100.

  • The build started as per the book ,on a sheet of blockboard, which I soon found was not stiff enough to keep a reliable flat profile so I clamped angle iron to both edges..

  • To save time I bought all the suspension wishbones, links, bushes, and balljoints from the very helpful Ian Gray at Stuart Taylor Ltd (Nottingham.UK).
  • The engine is quite tall so I have trimmed the top raised sections off the cam cover to lose 1" and I have also to modify the sump to gain some ground clearance, also I am going to run the ride height quite high 6-7" which is in line with current Caterham 7 trends.
