Market Towns are vital to both their own citizens and to those of its surrounding area. If a Market Town begins to decline then it will affect the surrounding countryside and villages.

Desborough Town Council applied to the Countryside Agency to be included in the Market Towns Initiative and was accepted along with Rothwell.  Recognition of the challenges facing both towns over the next few years.

The Project has two phases:

• A Healthcheck carried out to diagnose the state of the town and to help develop a vision for the town. This will lead to an Action Plan setting out key targets which need to be delivered in order to ensure that the town does not slip behind in the economic stakes.
• Phase 2 will then start to deliver the key targets identified previously and will seek to build and sustain local partnerships which will be an increasing influence on the town.
