Desborough comes from the words ‘Danes borough’ which means ‘town against the Danes’
The town has a longer and richer history than many might think.
From its proud association with the shoe industry, back to an earlier association with silk weaving and pillow lace making. Even further back was the famous Desborough Necklace, now in the British Museum in London. The necklace, which is about 1000 years old, is thought to be the property of an early Christian and was discovered when Roman graves were found to the south of Paddock Lane.
