General
Green Chartreuse is a strong spirit made by an order of Carthusian monks in France. Any profits made by the selling of this drink are donated to the running of the monastry and to charity. When taking this one you can always say that you're drinking for charity.

There is a companion drink - Yellow Chartreuse which is weaker in strength. I have not had the opportunity to try the yellow version yet.

Green Chartreuse is available at better off-licenses and bars. It goes for around £25 a bottle in off-licenses.

Review of Green Chartreuse
I'm afraid I don't find this a pleasant drink. It has a very strong herbal pungent taste and you are left in no doubt as to the alcoholic strength. My friends use "green short trousers" as a punishment for anyone who says or does something stupid on a night out. This drink is a real "eye-waterer".

I remember introducing this to a friend of mine in Leamington Spa - the bottle had to have the cobwebs blown off it and some of the bar staff didn't even know they stocked it. (I spied it up on a high shelf - I'm sure it was there for ornamental purposes) The drink scored highly that night for novelty and to be fair it does give you a good jolt if you're feeling a bit tired.

My chum took quite a shine to this drink and his life regarding girl-friends and work-ethic changed quite a bit for a while due to some respectably silly things he got up to. He would rate this drink higher than myself. I'd recommend trying it out - but I'd say most people will  find it unpleasant.

Novelty               drinking for charity; was the strongest legal drink before Absinthe became popular
Taste                            personally I don't find this a pleasant drink at all - good for a "punishment drink"
Kick   at 55% abv; a few shots of this could put you lights out - be careful
