PAL SNES 60Hz Compatibility List (back to Games)

This is a list of PAL SNES titles that I have tried on my modified PAL SNES console which the has region lock disabled and a 50Hz/60Hz display switch.

I got mine from http://www.consolepassion.co.uk.

This lists the effects of running PAL games at 60Hz (full screen).

Boot Check : This means that the cartridge will display a lockout message after switching on or pressing reset if the console is running at 60Hz; preventing you from playing. A typical message would be "This game cannot be run on a Super Famicom" or words to that effect. To get around this you switch the console on (or press reset) with the switch in the 50Hz position; then flicking it to 60 Hz after you see the game's normal startup screen.

Why bother with 60Hz? Well the games look a great deal better - despite many reports about speed, my experience is that most games in PAL run at full speed - at least the difference is not noticable to me. There are some exceptions to this and they are noted in the list. The real benefit is that the picture will actually fill the screen. Many PAL games look squashed (especially once you see them running at 60Hz) and have black borders at the top and bottom of the screen - this disappears at 60Hz. It really does make a big difference and many games look clearer. Some simply look beautiful when you see them as the designers intended.
