Promotion in 10 Regiment
Regimental
Sergeant Major
The most senior cadet in SE London Sector. You are completely in charge of
all other cadets. You will have passed a promotion panel in which you were
competing against other really excellent cadets for the post. The work is
demanding, constant and pressured. You will succeed because you only have
one standard and that is excellence. One cadet in thousand will get to RSM.
Called "RSM"
Lance
Corporal / Lance Bombardier
The first step, an introduction to command and leadership. This is a Detachment
rank as your Detachment Commander and the Detachment staff will decide if
you are ready. You will need to pass a JNCO course as well. You will have
certainly have passed your Two star, possibly Three star before we consider
you for your first promotion - about two years. Called "Corporal"
or "Bombardier"
Corporal
/ Bombardier / Lance Sergeant
Well on your way, this is a Regimental rank. You should have passed your Three
star and a Corporals Course and then attended an interview with the Regimental
Commander before we consider you for this. You will be learning all about
Leadership and probably teaching regularly if you have passed your JCIC. Called
"Corporal" or "Bombardier" or "Sergeant" in
104 as they are badged Irish Guards.
Sergeant
The first Sector rank where you will be interviewed by the Sector Commandant
and Regimental Sergeant Major. It is usual that a Sergeant will have passed
4 star and passed a Sergeants course. You will be teaching regularly and hold
a responsible position at your unit and on camps. About 3 and a half years.
Called "Sergeant" or "Sarn't"
Company Sergeant Major
/ Battery Sergeant Major / Squadron Sergeant Major
Yet another interview. In addition, you will have spent a few weeks on attachment
to other units in your Company to get new ideas and develop your knowledge.
Holding the rank of Sergeant Major is an honour and you will be a truly excellent
cadet to have got this far. At least 4 and a half years experience is needed.
Called "Sargeant Major" or "Company/Battery/Squadron Sarn't
Major"

Cadet Under Officer
The rank of Cadet Under Officer is only rarely awarded. The appointment of
RSM normally lasts for one complete year as long as the age limit of 18 years,
9 months is not reached. Once the year is up, the RSM usually hands over to
someone else if there is a suitable candidate. The ex RSM is promoted to Cadet
Under Officer for as long as they have left. The Under Officer is there to
give advice and assistance to the incoming RSM. Although, the Under Officer
is technically senior, the RSM is the cadet who has day to day management
of the cadets in the sector. Called "Mr or Miss Xxxx"

Promotion is 10 Regiment is based on our assessment of how good a leader you are. It is definitely not a right or a long service award
Our Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Warrant Officers (WOs) are well trained and motivated. They are given loads of opportunity to exercise their leadership skills. The staff of the Regiment rely heavily on the NCOs and WOs and most units are run by the senior cadet in that unit.
We start looking at the potential of cadets from quite early on. We have the best system for identifying and developing senior cadets. Ten out of the last thirteen Cadet Sector RSMs have come from the Regiment.
If you have leadership potential in you, we'll find it, develop it and let you use it.
