1. GRN Thin Acrylic 20 variant in combination with Painter IX's Coarse Cotton Canvas paper (paper scale= 59%, contrast= 364%, brightness=39%).

2. Impasto i Acrylic Tex 20 variant in combination with Painter IX's Charcoal paper (paper scale= 100%, contrast= 182%, brightness=73%).

3. Impasto i Acrylic NegTex 20 variant in combination with Painter IX's Wood Grain paper (paper scale= 127%, contrast= 100%, brightness=50%). Minimum spacing reduced to 0.4 in the Brush Controls palette>Size section.

4. Impasto i GRN Acrylic 20 variant in combination with Painter IX's Coarse Cotton Canvas paper (paper scale= 59%, contrast= 364%, brightness=39%).

5. Impasto i Acrylic HiTex variant in combination with Painter IX's Coarse Cotton Canvas paper (paper scale= 59%, contrast= 364%, brightness=39%).

Sandman's Note;

Generally speaking, I'm not in favour of including the same variant in several different sizes within my brush libraries. In this case however, the Bristle settings have also been changed to match brush size with hair spacing etc.

Tips;

i. Adjust the minimum spacing slider through the range of approximately 0.1 to 3.5 to control the impasto depth.

ii. The GRN Thin Acrylic and i Acrylic variants require a fairly high paper contrast to achieve the 'canvas depth show through' effect as demonstrated in 1 and 4 in the above image.

iii. Because the effects achieved depend as much on the currently selected paper texture as the variant used, if you find a combination you particularly like, why not save it as a Brush Look?

Texture Acrylics Custom Brushes Demo
For this project, I wanted to create a set of variants with an acrylic look which would interact with the currently selected paper textures. The demo image below shows some of the effects which can be achieved with different variant/paper textures and paper setting combinations. The custom Texture Acrylics brush library is available from here.
