September 2007, a return to the States once again. This time a road trip from Boston to New York

First port of call was Boston MA

Never mind the spiel, where's the free beer ?

Onward to Pinkham Notch, NH an AMC lodge. We walked up Mt. Washington from Crawford Notch to The Lakes Of The Clouds which is a hut near the summit. After 2 days walking on the mountain we did it the easy way - we drove up !

Dave on the way up, most of the time we were in the clouds
And Mark too, well we had to make use of the 2 minutes of clear sky !
Not the summit !

We then moved on to West Lebanon on The New Hampshire/Vermont border. The next walk was a stoll compared to Mt Washington, Quechee Gorge. We also visited Sugarbush Farm where real (ie not processed) cheese and Maple syrup are made.

Moving on back into Massachusetts we visited Pittsfield and took a hike up Mt. Graylock which does have a road to the summit but this is closed for road work at the moment making it a very quiet and pleasant place.

Then over another State line into Pennsylvania and the charming City of Stroudsburg which is near the New Jersey State Line. Here we found a charming litte Cafe called Sweet Creams. They did the best Salad I have EVER eaten. But also this allowed us to follow a hike along another section of the Appalachian Trail. Parking at Lake Road we walked through the Delaware Water Gap which apparently was once beautiful but is now blighted by the Interstate 80 which we had to walk alongside to reach a lovely trail up into the woodlands and to Sunfish Pond.

But finally it was time to get back on the Interstate and gt back into New York for a couple of days sightseeing before heading back off home to rip off Britain.
