Wingnut Productions. Directed by Peter Jackson. Cast included:
Clive Merrison, Kate Winslett, Melanie Lynskey. Diana played HILDA HULME,
the upper class self-centred mother of Kate Winslett, in this true story
of a murder in New Zealand. Despite Hilda's bad press, Diana felt sympathy
for her as an intelligent woman locked in a loveless marriage (View
video extract).
WINGS OF A DOVE and BILLY ELLIOT
These are included here for the sake of completeness but they
are both fleeting guest appearances made by "special request".
Linus Roche, one of the stars of WINGS OF A DOVE (who had previously played
love scenes with Diana in the tv series "Seaforth")
asked specifically for her to play the tiny part of a woman he had to
kiss during a party scene. Stephen Daldry
likewise asked her, and another actor from the original National Theatre
cast of "An Inspector Calls", to play
dance school tutors in BILLY ELLIOT. It was both a little "in joke"
and a good-luck charm - which judging by the film's success seems to have
worked.
