Saltwood Boxing Day Run
Emergency website Last few days
|
The Saltwood Boxing Day Run (not race) was started by villagers as a casual event
to help blow away the cobwebs and hangovers of Christmas. From 15 runners in 1975 to
719 in 2004, the numbers have changed but not the essence. It is held for fun and charity.
The course is under 3 miles but hilly, tough and often muddy. It appeals to all, families, fun-runners and international athletes. |

The clocks have gone back, the leaves are falling, firework fumes are in the nostrils.
It must be time to think about the 2009 and 35th edition of the Boxing Day Run
Advanced planning is, well, advanced. There are a few changes. We are giving far
fewer prizes for quite afew reasons. One was that out results were very poor because we concentrated
on the prizewinner spotting. We are using Bar codes this year. We didn't want to revert to a funnel.
Our entry procedure should be better this year as we have now a good database of runners which we
will utilise. We would like as many entries before the day and best of all on-line. We must have a
lot fewer runners without a number. A runner without
a number is a headache for us and a legal headache. We take due care of official entrants
(no accidents in 34 years)
but frankly runners without numbers shouldn't be, quite apart from the probable loss of
money for MND, our charity.
Entries will start on Sat 7th November.
If any of you are not in the results please give me a time, who you were with or any other help and
I will insert you.
This version of the website will go soon and the full version be restored (No thanks to Virgin Medea)

A note about results (click on [results 2008] below).
I have had nearly 120 photos. As a result I have added quite a few unspotted runners. In the last column there are
some numbers after the letter C. If you have such a number you have been captured on Cliff Woodwards candid camera.
If you email me and I will send you the action photo.
We have missed loads of people, didn't spot them, backups failed. If you are not in the results
but know your time please email me and you will be inserted.
We used a giant digital clock so that you could obtain your start and finish line time, and thus
obtain your personal time.
For the first time we had a major results failure, every thing that could have gone wrong did go wrong (in fact since
I wrote this another thing has gone wrong).
I will hope for emailed complaints and omissions regarding the results, to improve the results
. Any detail, like who you finished
with, what the clock said when you finished might help. We have no video to search through this year, but some 120 have helped
a bit assist.
At present there are the top 556 results. I will restore a link to the old,
entire website on the 25th January and then the results will be final-ish, subject to last minute corrections.
On behalf of the BDR team I hope you had a good run.
